6 Simple Ways to Stay Healthy and Live Longer

Simple lifestyle changes like improved diets, ample exercise and stress management can actually do wonders in helping you maintain good health. Regardless of your age or gender, here’s a reminder of the simple things you can do to stay healthy and improve longevity.

1. Eat More Vegetables

A decades-old study on thousands of Seventh-Day Adventists in the US has shown that people who subsisted on a vegetarian diet lived longer. The same study found that vegetarians lived an average of 8.5 years longer that people who ate meat and that people who didn’t give up meat completely and ate vegetables had a better chance of avoiding heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes.

2. Cut Down on Sugar

A simple way to promote good health is to reduce your sugar intake. Too much sugar can lead to obesity and pave the way for other ailments like heart disease and diabetes. Cut down on pasta and other starchy food items your body converts to sugar. Cut down on white rice entirely or substituting it with brown rice, red rice or quinoa to likewise reduce your sugar levels.

3. Lose Weight

It’s no secret that being overweight or obese opens you up to a host of illnesses. Excess fat and body weight can make you vulnerable to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, some forms of cancer, kidney disease and fatty liver disease. To find out if you’re overweight, calculate the ratio of your body fat to muscle tissue, or Body-Mass Index (BMI). You can calculate your BMI by using this calculator.  A BMI range of 18.5 to 24.9, is considered normal; if it reaches 25 or more, that that is in the range of overweight or obese. There are many ways you can lose weight, but be sure to do it safely and with the help of a qualified medical expert.

4. Exercise Daily

One of the simplest ways to maintain good health is to engage in exercise daily. A minimum of 30 minutes a day performing moderate physical activity is enough to stave off metabolic problems. This can be one or any combination of different exercises like brisk walking, jogging, weightlifting, swimming, yoga or engaging in sport.

5. Maintain a Healthy Great Looking Body

Even if you are already slim, you must not use this as a licence to do or eat whatever you want. Exercise daily, eat healthy food rich in fiber and beneficial vitamins and nutrients. Then you can start thinking about looking great and controlling fat using an FDA-approved fat-reducing regimen like a fat freeze treatment in Singapore.

6. Get Proper Sleep

Another important and simple measure people take for granted is getting a good night’s sleep. Not only does this mean getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep, but it also means sleeping at the right time. It’s best to sleep at any time starting from 8 pm to midnight, to avoid disrupting your circadian rhythm. Your circadian rhythm is the “internal clock” your body follows to perform tasks like having your immune system release cytokines to fight off illness or your digestive system working to break down your last meal.

To get the full benefits of good health and longevity, don’t pick only one of these measures but try to practice them all. Once you see and feel the benefits, these can motivate you to make more improvements in your daily life.
