Invisalign is a revolutionary cosmetic orthodontic treatment method which has become highly popular amongst dentists and patients alike, helping to improve hundreds and thousands of smiles in the last two decades. As the name suggests, Invisalign is an almost invisible, highly discreet and convenient method of creating a beautiful, healthy smile that you can be proud to show off to the world. Speak to your dentist today to find out more about Invisalign and how it can help you.

Not all smiles can be corrected using Invisalign, however this will be decided at the outset and if Invisalign is not suitable for you then there are plenty of other options which you can discuss with your dentist to help improve the appearance and health of your teeth.

To begin with, your dentist will need to determine that your teeth are clean and strong and that your gums are healthy, to make sure that the Invisalign treatment is safe for you to undergo. All orthodontic treatment requires healthy teeth and gums, if you do have any underlying dental issues then these will need to be addressed prior to the treatment. You may wish to undergo a professional clean with your hygienist before you begin treatment with Invisalign and during the process it is also important that you visit your dentist to make sure that everything is coming along successfully and that there are no dental issues presenting themselves as a result of the movement of your teeth.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign works using a series of aligners which are individually tailored and manufactured to fit your teeth accurately and precisely, using three-dimensional scans of your teeth to create them at the Invisalign laboratory. You will receive the full series of aligners and your dentist will explain that each of these aligners needs to be worn for two weeks at a time for at least 22 hours of the day. They are taken out at meal times and easily replaced when you have finished. They are comfortable to wear and they are very easy to look after. To keep them clean you just need to brush them with an ordinary toothbrush and toothpaste and soak them in their cleaning solution, ideally whilst you are having your meal, so that once you have finished your aligners are ready to put back into your mouth again. It is important that you clean your teeth before wearing your aligners to make sure that there is no debris, sugar or acid which may remain on them and come into further, closer contact with them whilst you are wearing the aligners. Each aligner is designed to move your teeth by approximately 0.25 mm and the overall treatment period will vary according to the extent of movement that you require from your teeth to create your desired smile.
